The Courier Eco Latino Partners With St. Francis-Emory Healthcare to Launch Weekly Health & Wellness Newsletter

New Tuesday publication will focus on educating, informing and empowering Black and Brown communities throughout the Chattahoochee Valley

The Courier Eco Latino Newspaper is proud to announce the launch of its new Health & Wellness Newsletter, sponsored by St. Francis-Emory Healthcare, a collaborative initiative designed to improve health awareness, promote preventive care and provide trusted medical information to Black and Brown communities throughout Columbus and the surrounding Chattahoochee Valley.

Published every Tuesday, the newsletter will serve as an educational resource, addressing some of the most pressing health challenges facing communities of color while connecting readers with healthcare professionals, medical services and resources available locally.

The partnership represents a shared commitment to going beyond traditional advertising by creating a platform that informs, educates and empowers residents to make healthier decisions for themselves and their families.

"At Courier Eco Latino, our mission has always been to be inspirational, informative and empowering," said Wane A. Hailes, president and publisher of the newspaper. "This partnership with St. Francis-Emory Healthcare allows us to put that mission into action by providing our readers with information that can improve their quality of life and, in some cases, help save lives."

The weekly publication will feature articles addressing health conditions that disproportionately affect Black and Hispanic populations, including high blood pressure, diabetes, sickle cell disease, heart disease, stroke, cancer and other chronic illnesses.

Additional topics will include nutrition, mental health, women's health, men's health, preventive screenings, healthy lifestyles and the importance of establishing relationships with primary care physicians.

A central component of the newsletter will be introducing readers to the physicians, specialists and healthcare professionals at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare.

Through physician profiles and educational features, readers will have opportunities to learn more about local medical professionals, their areas of expertise and the healthcare services available within the community.

The partnership also will incorporate Courier Eco Latino's "Sunday Conversations" interview series, featuring discussions with St. Francis-Emory Healthcare leadership, including its CEO, director of marketing and communications, physicians and medical specialists.

These conversations will explore healthcare challenges, emerging medical treatments, hospital initiatives and the importance of improving access to quality healthcare.

According to Hailes, one of the publication's primary objectives is to help close the information gap that often prevents individuals and families from seeking timely medical attention.

"Too often, people wait until a medical condition becomes an emergency before seeking help," Hailes said. "We want to encourage our readers to become proactive rather than reactive when it comes to their health. Sometimes, the right information at the right time can make all the difference."

The initiative also recognizes the importance of culturally relevant communication in addressing health disparities.

By presenting medical information in an accessible, understandable and community-focused format, the newsletter will seek to encourage preventive care, increase awareness of health risks and help residents make informed healthcare decisions.

Beyond the weekly newsletter, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare will maintain a digital presence on the Courier Eco Latino website, www.couriernews.org, where readers can access additional healthcare information, physician features and community health announcements.

Hailes said the collaboration reflects the newspaper's longstanding commitment to serving as a trusted source of information for the communities it represents.

"We believe healthcare information should not be complicated, intimidating or out of reach," Hailes said. "Whether we are discussing the warning signs of a stroke, the importance of monitoring blood pressure or introducing a physician who specializes in treating a particular illness, our goal is to make that information meaningful and useful to our readers."

The Courier Eco Latino Health & Wellness Newsletter will also provide opportunities to highlight community health events, medical screenings, educational programs and other initiatives designed to encourage healthier lifestyles.

"This is about more than publishing a newsletter. It is about building a healthier community," Hailes said. "If one article encourages someone to get a diabetes screening, if one interview motivates someone to schedule a mammogram, or if one conversation helps a family recognize the warning signs of a stroke, then we are accomplishing something meaningful."

The new publication reinforces Courier Eco Latino's mission of being Inspirational, Informative and Empowering, while expanding its commitment to community education through a partnership with one of the region's healthcare providers.

The Health & Wellness Newsletter, sponsored by St. Francis-Emory Healthcare, will be published every Tuesday as part of Courier Eco Latino's growing digital media platform.

Because an informed community is an empowered community — and an empowered community is a healthier community.
