Sgt. Talitha D. Ramsey has been unanimously selected as the 2026 recipient of the Columbus Bar Association’s Liberty Bell Award, an honor recognizing individuals outside the legal profession who promote respect for the law and the courts while contributing to the effective functioning of democratic institutions.
The Liberty Bell Award is presented annually to a community member whose work advances public understanding of the legal system, including efforts to protect constitutional rights and strengthen civic engagement.
Ramsey, who serves as the county’s Mental Health Services Liaison, has played a critical role in improving access to behavioral health services for individuals housed in the county jail. In her position, she oversees coordination of care, fosters collaboration among local agencies, and works to ensure continuity of treatment both during incarceration and following release.
Her efforts have focused on bridging gaps in mental health services within the justice system, with particular attention to individuals with intellectual disabilities and other vulnerable populations. Colleagues and community leaders have praised her compassion, leadership and commitment to addressing systemic challenges at the intersection of mental health and public safety.
Ramsey will be formally recognized during the Columbus Bar Association’s upcoming Law Day celebration.
Officials said her selection reflects a continued commitment to building a more responsive and equitable system of care, and they expressed strong support for her ongoing work in the community.
