Muscogee County Elections Director Nancy Boren Confirms Materials Were Not Associated With State or Local Elections Offices
New information has emerged regarding the discovery of voter-related materials in a dumpster at Hidden Lake Condominiums, 2525 Norris Road, earlier Friday.
Nancy Boren, director of the Muscogee County Elections and Registration Office, confirmed that the materials were bulk mail from the Voter Participation Center, a nonprofit organization that works to register and mobilize voters.
According to Boren, the materials were not associated with any state or local elections office.
"I have spoken with the Columbus Police Department," Boren said in a statement. "The department received a call this morning to 2525 Norris Rd."
Boren said surveillance footage documented an individual operating a U.S. Postal Service van depositing the bulk mail into the dumpster.
The Columbus Police Department and U.S. Postal Service are following up on the information, she said.
The discovery initially raised concerns about the possibility of discarded voter registration documents or election-related materials, particularly with early voting underway for the Nov. 3 general election.
However, Boren's statement clarifies that the materials originated from an independent nonprofit organization rather than an official elections office.
Authorities have not publicly established why the mail was discarded or whether any laws or postal regulations were violated.
The Courier Eco Latino will continue following this developing story and provide additional updates as information becomes available from the Columbus Police Department and U.S. Postal Service.
