By Jerome Bryant

As the 2024 school year winds down, students and athletes from the tri-city area have made us proud with their remarkable achievements. Numerous schools and individuals have clinched state championships, showcasing their talent, hard work, and dedication throughout the year. Our community has been buzzing with excitement as we celebrate these outstanding accomplishments.

Brookstone High School capped off the season with a thrilling victory, securing the State Championship with a 9-5 win over FPD. The Cougars are now the GIAA Class 4A State Champions, bringing home the coveted trophy. This victory is a testament to the team's relentless effort and determination throughout the season.

The Columbus High Golf team also made a strong showing, finishing second in the AAA Boys State Championship. The team was led by Brooks Urquhart, who posted impressive scores of 74 and 73. Their performance was outstanding, and although they fell just short of the state title, their hard work and sportsmanship were evident.

On the college signing front, we congratulate four recently graduated seniors who have signed their letters of intent to play sports at the collegiate level. This is a significant milestone in their athletic careers: Senita Scott: Flag football at Campbellsville University, Ethan George: Wrestling at Andrew College, Phillip Berni: Wrestling at Andrew College and Ty’Reonia Thomas: Track at Columbus State University These athletes have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, and we look forward to seeing them succeed at the next level.
