Staff Report
Three men have been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 shooting death of 16-year-old Dennie Henderson outside the Springhill Suites on Whittlesey Boulevard, the Columbus Police Department announced Friday.
Ty’Quavious Richmond, Patrick Montgomery Jr., and Dereon Montgomery were each sentenced to life with the possibility of parole, plus five additional years for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to police.
A Muscogee County jury found all three men guilty on Oct. 3, 2025, of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The trial began on Sept. 29, 2025.
Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire on March 24, 2024, in the parking lot of the Springhill Suites, where Henderson was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that Richmond and the Montgomery brothers acted together in the events that led to the killing, and evidence collected confirmed the involvement of all three men.
Richmond was arrested on May 16, 2024, one day after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Patrick and Dereon Montgomery were arrested in Lee County, Alabama, on Sept. 17, 2024, and extradited to Columbus the following day.
The Violent Crimes Unit led the investigation with assistance from the Digital Forensics Unit and the Real Time Crime Center. Police also thanked the Muscogee County District Attorney’s Office for its role in prosecuting the case and securing convictions.
