Columbus police announced April 28 that a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man earlier this month.
Calvin Johnson, 37, was taken into custody on Apr. 25 and charged with murder (party to a crime) in connection to the Apr. 11 shooting that killed Jaylon Wesley. Police identified Johnson as the driver involved in the incident.
Johnson is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court at 1:30 p.m. on Apr. 29, at 1:30 p.m.
Officers initially responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Rigdon Road on April 11. Upon arrival, they located Wesley lying in the middle of Colorado Street with multiple gunshot wounds. Muscogee County Coroner Dustin Harrelson pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:36 p.m.
The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities said several people and vehicles were in the area at the time of the shooting.
