Columbus police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 30-year-old man dead early Saturday morning at the Azalea Apartments on Boxwood Boulevard.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of Boxwood Boulevard around 3:32 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, according to the Columbus Police Department. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as Demetrius Wilkerson, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel attempted to resuscitate Wilkerson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 a.m. by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon.
Police said the Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Detectives have issued arrest warrants for Donald Fair, 32, on charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
