In our local sports scene, there’s an undeniable sense of excitement as our hometown teams and athletes continue to make waves with their outstanding performances. First up, congratulations to the Brookstone varsity girls’ soccer team for securing their spot in the Final Four! In a stunning victory against George Walton, they triumphed 3-0, with goals from Siri Stenslie, Taylor Zwickey, and Lilly Huwe. Now, they’re gearing up to face FPD in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in Macon. Meanwhile, the Brookstone varsity baseball team is also making waves, advancing to the Final Four after defeating Mount de Sales in both games of a doubleheader.
In other news, St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School has announced the appointment of Calvin Thomas as its new Athletic Director and head Basketball Coach. With a background steeped in sports and a passion for player development, Thomas brings a wealth of experience to the role. He’s set to officially join the Pacelli team on July 1, 2024, and his arrival is eagerly anticipated.
Moving on to the Muscogee County School District, we extend congratulations to the Track and Field Honorees, who were recognized for their outstanding achievements. Special mention goes to Hardaway High School Athletic Director Kendall Mills, who received the Unsung Hero Award. Additionally, kudos to the student-athletes who excelled in various categories, showcasing their talent and dedication.
In individual achievements, we commend Columbus High School’s Carter Dixon for his remarkable feat as one of only seven first-year students in Georgia to clinch a state championship this year. Carter’s accomplishments don’t end there—he’s also been honored with the Co-Rookie of the Year award and named to the Georgia Wrestling All-Academic Team.
Moving on to middle school sports, we would like to congratulate Richards Middle School girls and Fort Middle School boys for their outstanding performances at the Middle School Track Championship, where they secured first place in team points. Special recognition also goes to Ahmaud Nickerson of Fort Middle School and Michayla Bledsoe of Richards Middle School for their impressive victories in the 200m and 300m events, respectively.
Looking ahead, it’s Championship week! The baseball State Championship will feature an exciting matchup between #1 The King’s Academy and #2 Calvary Christian School. With both teams boasting impressive records and championship titles, this series promises to be one for the books. Games will be held at Milton High School, with live streaming available for fans eager to catch the action.
