Cook Unseats Anker, Wins District 9 At-Large Seat
Dr. Cathy Cook won the June 16 runoff election for the District 9 at-large seat on the Columbus City Council, defeating incumbent John Anker and securing a citywide victory with nearly 60% of the vote.
Unofficial results showed Cook receiving 18,780 votes, or approximately 60% of ballots cast, while Anker received 12,506 votes, or about 40%.
The victory marks the end of Anker's tenure on the council and returns the District 9 at-large seat to new leadership following a campaign that drew significant public attention. Cook, a Columbus dentist, U.S. Army veteran and longtime community leader, campaigned on a platform of service, leadership and community engagement.
Cook's win gives her a decisive mandate from voters across Columbus and positions her to join a City Council that will welcome several new members following the 2026 municipal elections.
The District 9 at-large seat is elected citywide and represents residents throughout Columbus. Cook will take office in January 2027.
