Community Partners gathered on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, to conclude their latest campaign with a meeting focused on reviewing accomplishments, challenges, and plans for future initiatives.
The meeting, held at the Alpha Kappa Alpha House, brought together local organizations, businesses and community leaders who collaborated on the recent general election campaign. Highlights included assisting over 400 residents with voter registration and reaching over 4,000 voters via phone banks and canvassing.
“There are numerous things that we have done together, and we have touched a lot of people. We've impacted our community in a lot of ways,” said Georgia State Rep. Carolyn Hugley.
The meeting also provided a platform for sharing data, celebrating milestones and identifying areas for improvement in future elections. In addition to campaign reviews, speakers addressed the importance of sustained community involvement and the role of partnerships in shaping public policy beyond election cycles.
“The biggest challenge we have is voter apathy,” Hugley said. “Over and over again people were saying, ‘Well, I don't want to vote.’ ”
The gathering concluded with a call to action for continued collaboration among community organizations and political leaders.
“One of the things that we're committed to is keeping the communication going with this. We still need to stay involved and make sure that people understand these positions for when we get ready to come back again and do the voter registration and mobile legislation,” said President & CEO of Urban League of Greater Columbus Tracey Mosley.
The Community Partners’ efforts reflect a broader commitment to voter education, especially for residents of color and younger voters.
