Muscogee County Democrats Issue First-Ever Endorsements in Nonpartisan Elections
The Muscogee County Democratic Committee announced its first-ever endorsements in nonpartisan statewide and municipal races ahead of the May 19,
Community organizations across the Tri-City region will host a public forum titled “Saving Our Democracy” on Thursday, March 12, bringing several Democratic candidates for Georgia governor to Columbus for a community-centered discussion on the future of the state.
The forum will be held at the Page–Doleman Complex, located at 800 8th St. in Columbus. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the program scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Organizers say the event is designed to provide residents with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates about issues affecting Georgia communities, including voting rights, economic opportunity, education and public policy priorities.
Candidates confirmed to participate include Olu Brown, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Geoff Duncan, Jason Esteves, Mike Thurmond and Derrick Jackson.
The forum will be moderated by Geneice Granville, vice president of Davis Broadcasting Inc., and Wane A. Hailes, president and publisher of the Courier Eco Latino Newspaper.
The event is being sponsored by a coalition of local civic and community organizations, including A Call to Talk – A Call to Action, Muscogee Democrats, the NAACP Columbus Branch, Courier Eco Latino Newspaper, Davis Broadcasting Inc., CSU Collegiate 100, Urban League of the River Valley, and the CSG Community Impact Empowerment Foundation.
Organizers say the forum is intended to encourage civic engagement and informed participation as voters across Georgia prepare for upcoming statewide elections.
The event is free and open to the public.
