Columbus State University Coach Robert Moore Sets Program Record with 160th Peach Belt Win

History was made Wednesday night as Robert Moore recorded his 160th Peach Belt Conference victory, becoming the winningest coach in conference play in Columbus State men’s basketball history.

The milestone win, secured Feb. 11, 2026, allowed Moore to surpass his former mentor, Herbert Greene, for the most Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victories by a head coach at Columbus State.

Now in his 16th season at the helm, Moore has compiled a 216-170 overall record and transformed the Cougars into a consistent contender in the Peach Belt Conference. Since being named the program’s sixth head coach in April 2010, he has guided Columbus State to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including three since the 2014-15 season.

Moore’s tenure has been marked by sustained success and postseason consistency. He has led the Cougars to four 20-win seasons and four PBC Tournament championship game appearances. In 2016, he was named PBC Coach of the Year after guiding Columbus State to one of the most successful stretches in program history.

From 2014 to 2017, the Cougars posted a 63-26 record — a .708 winning percentage — and earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, a feat accomplished only once before in school history. During that run, Columbus State also claimed the 2016 and 2017 PBC West Division titles.

Moore’s impact extends beyond wins and championships. He has coached 11 All-Peach Belt Conference selections and seen 14 former Cougars sign professional contracts. Among them was Nelson Haskin (’22), a two-time PBC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

Before returning to Columbus State as head coach, Moore spent six seasons (1994-2000) as an assistant under Greene, contributing to two NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances, three PBC Tournament titles and a regular-season conference championship.

Moore arrived at CSU with nearly two decades of coaching experience, including head coaching stops at Brookstone School, Tift County High School and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. At Tift County, he was named the Georgia Sportswriters Association Class 5A Coach of the Year after leading the program to back-to-back region championships and a state title game appearance.

In addition to his on-court achievements, Moore remains active on campus and in the community. He is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and supports Columbus State’s African American Male Initiative program. In 2014, he received the university’s Outstanding Staff Award and was later recognized by the Delta Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Wednesday night’s victory not only adds another milestone to Moore’s résumé — it cements his place as one of the most accomplished coaches in Columbus State basketball history.
