At just 26, Kayla Stutson is redefining hair care with her new salon, Code Beauty, which opened Feb. 1 at 4475 Warm Springs Road, Suite 8 in Columbus.
The salon celebrated its official grand opening on Saturday, May 3, 2025, inviting the community to experience its unique approach to hair care.
Rooted in childhood memories of watching her mother at hair salons, Stutson's journey to entrepreneurship is deeply personal.
"I remember sweeping floors and taking out rollers as a young girl, watching how happy women would become after getting their hair done," she recalled. "Those moments sparked my passion for the beauty industry."
The salon's distinctive name draws inspiration from singer Monica's "Code Red" album, reflecting Stutson's desire to create something uniquely her own.
"I never wanted a typical 'Hair by...' name," said Stutson. "I wanted something different that represented my vision."
Code Beauty offers a comprehensive range of services including natural hair styling, braids, sew-ins, color treatments and makeup artistry. However, Stutson's primary mission transcends mere styling.
"My ultimate goal is healthy hair," she emphasized. "Most salons focus on making hair look good, but they don't prioritize its actual health and condition."
Her commitment to that mission has already made an impression on her growing client base.
"Kayla is very detailed when it comes to doing hair," said longtime client Sharena Harper. "She gives great hair advice and always gives you exactly what your hair needs."
"Kayla doesn't just style your hair — she educates you about it," said another longtime client. "After years of struggling with breakage, my hair has never felt this healthy. And every appointment feels like a reset for both my hair and my spirit."
The young entrepreneur credits her faith as a driving force behind her business.
"I believe in divine timing," Stutson said. "This salon is a testament to believing that you can truly achieve your dreams."
Her approach extends beyond technical skills. Stutson aims to create an atmosphere of relaxation and empowerment.
"People go through so much in life," she noted. "I want my clients to feel relaxed, confident and their absolute best when they're here."
With plans to potentially expand to multiple locations, Stutson remains committed to continuous learning. She regularly takes classes and emphasizes the importance of networking in the ever-evolving beauty industry.
The salon features a carefully curated environment, with music ranging from jazz to smooth R&B, designed to help clients feel comfortable and at ease.
