More than a year after a man was shot near a Lafayette Drive residence and later died from his injuries, Columbus police say the case remains unsolved — and the investigation is still active.
On April 16, 2024, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 60 block of Lafayette Drive at approximately 9:12 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Paul Richardson, 35, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Columbus Fire & EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was listed in critical condition.
After battling his injuries for two weeks, Richardson died on April 30, 2024. He was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m.

Despite the passage of time, police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the case. Investigators say even minor tips can be crucial in helping move homicide investigations forward.
“We are committed to justice for Paul Richardson and his loved ones,” police said. “We’re asking for the community’s help in identifying those responsible.”
