UGA Athletics Exhibit to Visit Columbus Public Library on June 26

Local sports fans will soon have the chance to step into the storied history of Georgia Bulldogs athletics when a traveling exhibit from the University of Georgia Athletic Association archives makes a stop in Columbus next week.

The exhibit, titled "UGA Athletics in Your Town," will be on display at the Columbus Public Library on Thursday, June 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Curated by Jason Hasty, Athletics History Specialist at the UGA Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the exhibit features a collection of historic artifacts that trace more than a century of Bulldog sports heritage. Columbus is one of several stops on a statewide summer tour aimed at bringing the legacy of UGA athletics to communities across Georgia.

“The UGA Athletic Association archive contains more than a century of the physical history of UGA Athletics,” Hasty said. “This traveling exhibit is a great way to take some of the most interesting artifacts we have in this archive to communities all across Georgia for a fun, family-friendly event.”

Tiffany Wilson, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, called the exhibit an ideal fit for the library's mission.

“We're thrilled to partner with The Hargrett Library to bring this incredible exhibit showcasing Georgia's athletic heritage to the Chattahoochee Valley,” Wilson said. “It offers a fun and engaging experience for sports fans and families alike right here in our community.”

The Columbus stop will take place in the W.C. Bradley Reading Room on the second floor of the library, located at 3000 Macon Road.

Other stops on the tour include Hartwell, Alpharetta, Newnan, Marietta, Tifton, Dublin, and Toccoa, with dates running through August 1.
