Tree of Life Healthcare: A Legacy of Compassionate Care Rooted in Faith
Tree of Life Healthcare, a non-profit medical and eye clinic located at 808 21st Street in Columbus, continues to serve as a vital resource for uninsured and underserved patients across West Georgia and East Alabama. Guided by a mission to “be a living demonstration of the love of God and the teaching of Jesus Christ,” the clinic provides quality, compassionate medical care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay.
Tree of Life serves as a primary healthcare provider and medical home for individuals without health insurance, while also offering services to Medicaid and Medicare patients with the same standard of care. The clinic works closely with local emergency departments to accept referrals and ensure patients receive continuous, affordable healthcare.
The vision for Tree of Life Healthcare was born out of personal adversity. Its founder and CEO, Pastor Lowell Cliatt, transformed his battle with cancer into a calling to serve others.

“In April 2015, I went in for a routine test and was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that had spread to my liver,” Cliatt once shared. “After prayer, surgery, and treatment, I realized how blessed I was to have access to the care I needed. But I also knew there were people in our community walking around with chronic conditions who didn’t even know it — because they couldn’t afford to see a doctor. That realization became my mission.”
That mission became Tree of Life Healthcare — a place where faith, healing, and community intersect. Since its founding, the clinic has provided thousands of patients with screenings, primary care, and medical support that might otherwise be out of reach.
Pastor Cliatt passed away on June 3, 2022, at the age of 66, leaving behind a lasting legacy of service, compassion, and faith. Born June 23, 1955, in Columbus to the late Mary Louise Cliatt, he is remembered as a visionary leader who turned his personal trial into a community triumph.
Today, Tree of Life Healthcare continues his work under dedicated leadership, staying true to his belief that quality healthcare is a ministry — not a privilege.
