The Weight Is Making You Stronger

The next time you walk into a gym, don't just look at the people lifting weights. Look at the lesson. Every person in that gym has the same basic human design. Two arms. Two legs. Muscles. Bones. Blood flowing through their veins. The difference isn't that one person was created with a better body than another. The difference is what they chose to do with what they were given.

Muscles don't grow by avoiding heavy things. They grow because they repeatedly carry them. The heavier the weight, the greater the resistance. The greater the resistance, the stronger the muscle becomes.

Faith works the very same way.

Too many of us spend our lives praying for God to remove every burden, when sometimes that burden is the very thing He is using to build us. Every trial, every disappointment, every setback, every tear, every betrayal is another weight on the spiritual barbell.

God isn't trying to break you. He's trying to strengthen you.

The faith that carried you through yesterday's struggle isn't always enough for tomorrow's assignment. So God allows life to add another plate to the bar. Not because He has abandoned you, but because He knows there is more strength inside you than you have discovered.

Your faith grows under pressure. It expands under resistance. It swells to meet whatever challenge stands before it.

Think about it. The people we admire spiritually aren't those who had the easiest lives. They are the ones who carried the heaviest loads without letting go of God. They didn't become giants of faith because life was fair. They became giants because they kept lifting.

I've often joked that my arms may be bigger than someone else's—not because I was born with more muscle, but because they've had to carry more weight. Spiritually, the same principle applies. The more weight your faith has been forced to carry, the stronger your faith becomes.

If you walk by faith, your faith will grow to meet the challenge that's in front of you today.

Do you hear what I'm saying? The Bible tells us that God has dealt to every believer "the measure of faith." We all wake up under the same sun. You have two eyes. I have two eyes. You have two legs. I have two legs. We were each given a mind capable of learning, growing, and making choices.

What separates us is rarely our potential. It's our discipline. It's our commitment. It's what we decide to do with what God has already placed in our hands.

Someone may know more than you because they studied more than you. Someone may be stronger because they trained longer than you. Someone may have greater wisdom because they spent more time seeking it. That isn't luck. That's stewardship.

So stop spending your energy blaming people who don't support you. Stop blaming those who don't like you. Stop blaming your family. Stop blaming your neighborhood. Stop blaming your boss. Stop blaming your enemies. And yes, stop blaming politicians, presidents, and every other convenient excuse.

None of those people can stop you from developing what God has already deposited inside of you. The greatest prison is not the one built by other people. It's the one built by our own excuses. The day your life begins to change is the day you stop asking, "Who's holding me back?" and start asking, "What have I done with what God has given me?"

Because until you accept responsibility for your choices, you will never have the power to change your circumstances. You can't change yesterday. You can't control everyone around you. But you can decide today to pick up the weight. Carry the burden. Strengthen your faith. Grow your mind. Expand your character. Develop your gifts. And trust God through every repetition.

Remember this: the weight you've been complaining about may be the very thing God is using to make you strong enough to carry the blessing you've been praying for.
