The Final Stretch: Candidate Spotlight Ahead of June 16 Runoff

With just 14 days remaining before voters return to the polls for the June 16 runoff election, Courier Eco Latino Newspaper will present an in-depth examination of several candidates who remain on the ballot and have received the publication's endorsement.

The special election coverage, scheduled for publication Sunday, June 7, will provide readers with a detailed look at the candidates' backgrounds, qualifications, records of public service, and visions for the future of their respective offices.

Among the local candidates featured will be mayoral candidate Isaiah Hugley, who advanced to the runoff election following the May 19 general election. The coverage will also include District 7 City Council runoff candidate Becca Zajac and District 9 At-Large City Council runoff candidate Dr. Cathy Cook.

In addition to local races, Courier Eco Latino will highlight two statewide leaders whom the newspaper has endorsed for future statewide office: former Atlanta Mayor and White House adviser Keisha Lance Bottoms for governor and Judge Penny Brown Reynolds for secretary of state.

The newspaper's special coverage comes as early voting begins Monday, June 8, and continues through Friday, June 12. Election officials are encouraging voters to take advantage of the early voting period or make plans to cast their ballots on Election Day, June 16.

The upcoming runoff elections will help determine the future direction of city leadership and representation on Columbus Council, making voter participation especially important. Community leaders have continued to emphasize that local elections often have the most direct impact on residents' daily lives through decisions involving public safety, economic development, infrastructure, neighborhood services, and government accountability.

Courier Eco Latino Publisher Wane A. Hailes said the newspaper's goal remains to provide voters with information that helps them make informed decisions before heading to the polls.

Readers are encouraged to follow the newspaper's digital platforms and Sunday edition for comprehensive candidate profiles, election analysis, and information regarding voting locations, early voting opportunities, and runoff election updates.

The June 16 runoff election will determine several key races that remained undecided after no candidate secured the required majority of votes during the May election cycle.
