Staff Report
A man wanted in connection with a shooting that critically injured a woman and left her 7-year-old son with minor wounds turned himself in to police Thursday, authorities said.
Jontay Reynolds, 28, surrendered to the Columbus Police Department on Sept. 25 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, Assistant Chief L.H. Deaton said in a news release.
Police said patrol officers responded about 6:43 p.m. Sept. 22 to reports of shots fired in the 1800 block of Susan Lane. Officers found shell casings in the roadway but no victims. Shortly afterward, a separate 911 call reported two gunshot victims at the department’s East Precinct.
The victims — a 24-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son — were taken by ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital. The child sustained minor injuries, and the woman was listed in critical condition.
Investigators said Reynolds is the female victim’s husband and the child’s father. Warrants have been issued for drive-by shooting and two counts of aggravated assault (family violence). Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call 911 or contact Cpl. Mary-Macy Ruiz at 706-225-4379.
