Columbus Transitional Center Gets New Superintendent

Columbus, Ga. – A Columbus man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on Victory Drive near Benning Road during the early morning hours of Oct. 27, according to Columbus police.
Officers responded to the scene around 1:29 a.m. on Sunday, where they found Anthony Hughley, who had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Hughley was later pronounced dead at a Columbus hospital.
Following an investigation led by the Motor Squad, authorities identified Adonis Cooley as the suspect. Cooley was arrested the following day, Oct. 28, and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, and additional traffic-related offenses.
"This case remains under investigation," police said in a press release urging anyone with information to come forward.
Further details about the circumstances of the incident were not immediately provided.
