In 1913, thousands of women filled Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., marching to demand the right to vote. Among them were 22 Black women who had, just two months earlier, founded a new public service sorority at Howard University: Delta Sigma Theta. More than a century later, the organization’s commitment to sisterhood, scholarship and service remains steadfast.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, members of the Columbus Alumnae Chapter, Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter and the Theta Phi Chapter at Columbus State University will honor the legacy of their Founders during a Joint Founders Day Luncheon. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Cheryl Turner, the International President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Turner will address members, civic partners and guests during the annual celebration, which highlights the organization’s historic roots and ongoing service efforts.

As part of the luncheon’s community impact initiative, the chapters will present the Junior League of Columbus with a donation of diapers supporting the organization’s Diaper Bank. According to national statistics, one in two families in the United States struggles with diaper need, and an estimated 5.2 million babies and toddlers under age 3 live in poor or low-income households.
