Preserving a Legacy: The W.H. Spencer Golden Owlettes Keep History Alive
The W.H. Spencer Golden Owlettes, in partnership with the W.H. Spencer House Restoration Committee (SHRC) and the Green
The W.H. Spencer Golden Owlettes, in partnership with the W.H. Spencer House Restoration Committee (SHRC) and the Green & Gold Luncheon Committee, extend heartfelt gratitude to all who continue to support their shared mission of “Preserving a Legacy.”
That legacy—the historic W.H. Spencer House—stands as a proud symbol of educational excellence and civic pride in Columbus, Georgia. Nestled at 745 Veterans Parkway, this cherished landmark was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and remains a beacon of hope, knowledge, and community heritage.
A Legacy That Must Endure.

The Spencer House honors the life and vision of Professor William Henry Spencer, a pioneering educator whose influence shaped generations of students and leaders. His home remains a cornerstone of perseverance and progress—a place where history, heritage, and community converge.
As caretakers of this legacy, the Golden Owlettes are committed to ensuring that the Spencer House remains a living monument to courage, character, and academic achievement for generations to come.
The 11th Annual Green & Gold Luncheon: A Resounding Success
Held on September 20, 2025, at the St. Luke Ministry Center, the 11th Annual Green & Gold Luncheon was a triumph of generosity and community spirit—raising more than $40,000 in support of the Spencer House Restoration Project, one of the event’s most successful totals to date.

The luncheon’s elegant décor, directed by Sara J. Davis and her talented team with assistance from Barbara J. Lee and Maggie Benton Stephens, transformed the venue into a breathtaking display of green and gold sophistication. Organizers also expressed deep appreciation to the St. Luke Ministry Center staff and Ms. Lisa Marie and her team for their professionalism and hospitality.
Community Pride, Collective Purpose
The Green & Gold Luncheon has become a hallmark of civic pride and community partnership. For the Golden Owlettes—affectionately known as “the keepers of the Spencer House”—the event is about more than fundraising. It represents the preservation of beauty, the pursuit of excellence, and the honoring of W.H. Spencer’s enduring legacy in education and public service.
Every dollar raised supports the maintenance, restoration, and operation of the Spencer House, ensuring that its doors remain open for education, reflection, and celebration. Organizers are already looking ahead to the 12th Annual Green & Gold Luncheon in 2026, which promises to build on this year’s success.
