Phenix City-Russell County NAACP to Host Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon

The Phenix City-Russell County Branch of the NAACP will host its Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the St. Luke Ministry Center, 301 11th Street, Columbus, Ga.

This year’s theme centers on empowerment and equity and will feature a keynote address from Pastor Thomas E. Jordan of Lilly Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ala. Jordan is widely recognized across Alabama for his leadership in both the faith community and the fight for civil rights.

“Our Freedom Fund Luncheon is more than a fundraiser — it’s a reaffirmation of our mission, a celebration of our progress, and a call to action,” said Shakea Miller, 2nd Vice President of the Phenix City-Russell County NAACP. “We welcome everyone to attend and stand with us in solidarity as we continue fighting for our children, families, community, and future.”

The Phenix City-Russell County NAACP has been a driving force for racial equity in East Alabama and West Georgia. Over the past year, the branch has:

• Secured community service grants for education and outreach programs.
• Hosted events including voter registration drives, Emancipation Proclamation celebrations, Stop the Gun Violence forums, Black Maternal Health awareness programs, a Unity Ice Cream Social, and back-to-school initiatives.
• Advocated for fair voting access, educational equity, and justice system reform at multiple levels of government.
• Expanded leadership development through its WIN (Women in the NAACP) council and other committees.
