Muscogee County Voters Prepare for June 16 Primary Runoff Election READ MORE A Sunday Conversation: Leadership Matters: A Record Speaks
Muscogee County voters are preparing to return to the polls for the June 16, 2026 General Primary Runoff Election after several races failed to produce a candidate with a majority vote during the May primary election.
Under Georgia election law, a runoff election is required when no candidate receives more than 50% plus one vote. In those cases, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff to determine the winner.
The runoff election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, exactly four weeks after the original primary election.

Eligible voters include registered voters who participated in the same party’s primary election or voters who did not cast a ballot during the original primary. Election officials noted that voters who already participated in another party’s primary cannot switch parties for the runoff.
Voters who selected a nonpartisan ballot during the May primary may vote in any runoff election available within their precinct.
Election officials emphasized that voters who are already registered do not need to register again for the runoff election. Registrations remain active for eligible voters.
The state voter registration deadline passed on April 20, while the federal registration deadline was May 18. Officials said voters who registered between those dates will only be eligible to cast a federal-only ballot in the runoff election.
Residents may verify their voter registration status and polling location through Georgia’s My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
Early voting for the runoff election will take place June 8-12 at the City Services Center, located at 3111 Citizens Way. Polls will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Absentee-by-mail voters must ensure new runoff absentee ballot applications are received by Friday, June 5. Officials noted that some voters who previously requested absentee ballots for the entire election cycle may not need to reapply.
Completed absentee ballots must be received by the Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
On Election Day, polls across Muscogee County will remain open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Officials reminded voters that anyone standing in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.
Georgia law requires voters to present a valid photo identification when voting in person. Accepted forms of identification include a Georgia driver’s license, U.S. passport, government employee identification, military identification, tribal identification, or a Georgia voter identification card.
