Free Community Fish Fry Draws Hundreds in Support of Hugley’s Mayoral Campaign
More than 500 residents gathered Saturday, March 21, 2026, at campaign headquarters on Macon Road for a free community fish
Angela Watson-Verdejo has built a distinguished career in broadcasting while maintaining a deep commitment to community service across the Chattahoochee Valley.
Watson-Verdejo currently resides in Columbus, Georgia, and was born and raised in Phenix City, Alabama. She attended Mother Mary Mission School and graduated from Central High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and management from Troy University in Troy, Alabama.
A media industry veteran, Watson-Verdejo has dedicated 33 years to Davis Broadcasting, Inc., where she serves as general sales manager overseeing Praise 100.7 (WEAM), WOKS AM/FM, WKZJ (home of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show), Foxie 105, Hits 104.5, and ESPN 95.7 FM. Her leadership and impact were recently recognized when she received the African American Radio Legends “Radio Management Giant” Award, presented by State Sen. Ed Harbison.
Community service has long been central to Watson-Verdejo’s mission. She is a featured model for Nurses, Inc.’s annual “Go Red” heart health event and serves as director of the 100 Women on the Move bi-annual fashion show fundraiser. In recognition of her dedication, she has been granted honorary member status by the organization. She is also a Hall of Fame inductee for Best Dressed Women in Columbus, an honor presented by the Columbus Model Club.
Through Davis Broadcasting, Watson-Verdejo remains actively involved in numerous annual initiatives, including Tools for School, Movie Night Under the Stars, Praise Fest, the Turkey Giveaway, Boxes of Joy Christmas Party, and Women’s Empowerment events. She also hosts the annual Mel & Abe, Styles by Denise Community Day in Phenix City.
A lifelong member of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Watson-Verdejo holds the title of Ms. Pine Hill 2025. A devoted University of Alabama fan, she proudly cheers “Roll Tide,” enjoys concerts and shopping, and treasures time with family and friends. Her most cherished role is being the mother of her son, Carlos Ja’Len, a student at Alabama A&M University
