A View From A Pew: Let Them Find Their Own Path
There comes a moment in every parent’s journey when we must face a hard truth: our children do not
In the heart of the Chattahoochee Valley, two talented young creatives are shaping the visual narrative of Black culture, business, and community empowerment—one brushstroke and brand at a time.
Keith Phillips and Kenneth Davis, co-founders of the collaborative duo behind Black Box Art Gallery and Kollage Graphics & Design, have emerged as local trailblazers in the world of mixed media art and graphic design. Together, they are redefining what it means to tell powerful stories through visual communication.
Keith Phillips: Art with a Purpose
A Columbus native raised in Phenix City, Alabama, Keith Phillips is a graphic designer and mixed media artist whose signature “golden art on wood” technique has become a hallmark of his creative identity. Rooted deeply in Black history, culture, and social commentary, his artwork blends the classical with the contemporary—honoring the legacies of community leaders, cultural icons, and Southern heritage.
Phillips studied at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Auburn University at Montgomery, and Columbus Technical College. His Black Box Art Gallery brand has gained recognition across the Southeast, with exhibitions at The Columbus Museum, Black Art in America, The New Black Wall Street Marketplace, and Atlanta staples like Apache Café and Moods Music.
“Everything I create is about remembering and honoring who we are,” Phillips said. “It’s art that speaks to where we’ve been and where we’re going.”
Kenneth Davis: Branding with Vision
On the branding and business front, Kenneth Davis—also a Phenix City native and Central High School graduate—brings a strategic and design-focused lens to their partnership. As the owner of Kollage Graphics & Design, Davis helps entrepreneurs and organizations craft cohesive brand identities that go far beyond logos.
A graduate of Chattahoochee Valley Community College and The Art Institute of Atlanta, Davis believes that great branding is about storytelling and alignment. “A brand isn’t just how it looks,” Davis explained. “It’s how it speaks, how it feels, and how it connects with people. It should reflect a business’s mission, its values, and its promise.”
From color palettes and logo development to messaging and customer experience design, Davis ensures that each project aligns with the unique voice of the client.
A Powerful Collaboration
Together, Phillips and Davis have combined their passions and expertise to offer a comprehensive suite of creative services—from fine art and illustration to layout design, business branding, and more. Their collaborative vision bridges artistic expression with commercial clarity, providing clients with work that is both beautiful and intentional.
“We’re not just making things look good,” Davis said. “We’re helping people tell their stories and build legacies.”
As the local creative scene continues to grow, these two young visionaries are leading by example—proving that when community, culture, and creativity intersect, the results can be both transformative and timeless.
