The Muscogee County School District has announced a series of administrative promotions for the upcoming academic year, strengthening leadership across schools and central office departments.
Among those elevated to new roles is Ms. Tamura Magwood, who has been appointed as the Chief of the Central Region, overseeing schools within that area. Mrs. Tonya Sanders has been named Principal of Johnson Elementary School, bringing years of educational leadership to her new role.
In the district’s special education division, Ms. LaChrista Thornton has been promoted to Executive Director of the Program for Exceptional Students, where she will guide strategy and compliance for services supporting students with disabilities.
Athletics across the district will now fall under the leadership of Mr. Kendal Mills, who has been appointed Director of District-Wide Athletics. Mills brings extensive experience from his previous role as Athletic Director at Hardaway High School.
Several schools also welcomed new principals and assistant principals. Mr. Lacoya Day has been named Principal of George Washington Carver High School, while Ms. Danya Albright will take over as Principal of East Columbus Magnet Academy.
In support leadership roles, Ms. Zehra Malone has been promoted to Assistant Principal at Blackmon Road Middle School, Mr. Latavius Watts has been named Assistant Principal at Carver High School, and Ms. Lynn Hall-Green will serve as Assistant Principal at Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy.
The district stated that these promotions reflect a commitment to fostering strong leadership and continued academic progress across all campuses.
“These talented educators and administrators bring a wealth of experience and a passion for student success,” said a spokesperson for MCSD. “We are confident they will make a lasting impact in their new roles.”
