Marquese “Skinny” Averett has officially qualified as a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives seat representing District 140, entering the race to succeed State Rep. Teddy Reese.

Averett filed his qualifying paperwork earlier today, expanding his political ambitions just weeks after announcing his candidacy for the Columbus City Council District 7 seat.
The move places Averett in the contest for the state legislative position that will be vacated by Reese, who recently announced his intention to seek higher office.
Known in the community by the nickname “Skinny,” Averett has been active in local civic and community circles and had recently begun organizing a campaign focused on city issues in the District 7 council race.
With his decision to pursue the District 140 seat in the Georgia House, Averett now joins the field of candidates seeking to represent the Columbus-area district under the Gold Dome in Atlanta.
District 140 includes portions of Columbus and surrounding areas and has long been represented by leaders with deep ties to the local community.
The upcoming election will determine who succeeds Reese in representing the district in the Georgia House of Representatives.
More details about the race will be available in the Courier Eco Latino newspapers Sunday Edition.
