A new chapter in Muscogee County athletics is underway—and it starts at the top.
In a unanimous vote on June 24, the Muscogee County School Board appointed Kendall Mills as the new director of district-wide athletics. Mills, a respected figure in Georgia’s high school sports community, brings more than two decades of experience to the role, including the last nine years as athletic director at Hardaway High School.
To those familiar with prep sports in the Chattahoochee Valley, Mills is a household name. His tenure at Hardaway includes more than 300 varsity basketball wins as head coach and a legacy of athletic achievement across multiple sports. Under his leadership, the volleyball team reached multiple Elite Eight appearances, and the school’s overall athletic profile steadily climbed.
Mills spent seven of his nine years at Hardaway as athletic director, overseeing all athletic programs, student eligibility, scheduling, and program development. Known for his focus on progress, student success, and integrity, Mills has earned widespread respect for his leadership style, which emphasizes accountability and excellence.
In his new districtwide role, Mills will oversee athletics for all Muscogee County middle and high schools. His responsibilities will include hiring and supporting coaches, managing compliance and budgeting, and steering long-term planning efforts for the district’s athletic programs.
“This is a pivotal moment for our athletic programs,” said Superintendent David Lewis. “Coach Mills brings a proven track record of success, and we’re confident in his ability to lead our district forward.”
Mills’ appointment signals a renewed focus on both athletic excellence and academic achievement across the Muscogee County School District.
“This opportunity means everything,” Mills said. “I’m honored to serve our students, coaches, and community, and I look forward to building a strong foundation for the future of MCSD athletics.”
