Hugley Launches Campaign for Mayor of Columbus, Pledging Unity, Safety, and Opportunity

Isaiah Hugley, a 41-year veteran of public service and former city manager, formally announced his campaign for mayor of Columbus on Monday morning during a public event at Warehouse 9 in the city’s historic Liberty District.

Before an audience of supporters, community leaders, and members of the press, Hugley outlined a platform centered on unity, public safety, and economic opportunity under the campaign theme “One Goal. One Future. One Columbus.”

“This is more than a campaign,” Hugley said. “It’s a commitment to finish the work, restore trust, and lead this city forward — not with slogans, but with experience and results. Columbus doesn’t need on-the-job training. It needs leadership that knows how to get things done.”

Hugley spent more than two decades as city manager, overseeing more than 30 departments and managing a workforce of more than 3,000 employees. During his tenure, he directed budgets exceeding $360 million annually and helped guide more than $1.2 billion in capital and infrastructure projects. Columbus earned recognition as one of the best-run cities in America under his leadership, receiving clean audits and top-tier bond ratings.

Speaking from the stage, Hugley stressed that the city’s next chapter should be defined by collaboration and shared purpose. “We are not divided. We are destined,” he said. “Destined to rise above the noise and ask not what is broken, but what is possible. I’ve spent a lifetime preparing to lead this city, and I’m ready to do it with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to every resident in every neighborhood.”

The campaign is co-chaired by community leaders Trip Tomlinson and Carolyn Randolph, with Lucas Melton serving as campaign manager. Its platform focuses on three core priorities:

·       Rebuilding public trust and unity

·       Preventing crime and improving public safety

·       Expanding economic mobility and affordable housing

“Isaiah Hugley knows this city from the ground up,” Tomlinson said. “He has helped build it, guide it, and protect it. He is the only candidate ready to lead on day one.”

Following his announcement, Hugley met with members of the local press and outlined plans for a neighborhood listening tour beginning later this month.
