The Georgia State Conference of the NAACP will convene its 83rd Annual Convention Oct. 9–11 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, bringing together civil rights leaders, clergy, youth and community members under the theme “The Fierce Urgency of Now: From Advocacy to Action.”
“This year’s convention is more than a meeting — it’s a movement,” said Gerald Griggs, president of the Georgia NAACP. “The challenges of today demand urgency, courage, and unity. Together, we will ground ourselves in community, build breakthroughs, and inspire a new generation of leaders.”
Convention Highlights
- Oct. 9: Grounded in Community, Guided by Faith — The opening day includes a press conference at 11:30 a.m., a Labor and Industry Luncheon with keynote speaker Dwayne Brown of Maximus, Inc., a Community Mass Meeting with Pastor Valerie Thompson of the National Baptist Association, and “Dinner for the Soul” at Elizabeth Baptist Church.
- Oct. 10: Building Blocks and Breakthroughs — A career fair sponsored by Maximus, Inc. will feature on-the-spot interviews with 15 local employers. Workshops will cover legal redress, civic engagement, healthcare, branch administration and economic development. Dr. Benjamin Chavis, president of the National Newspaper Publishers Association, will address the Butler Membership Luncheon. Evening events include GYCD Spirit Night, a veterans welcome reception, and music from DJ Reggie Beas of KISS 104.1.
- Oct. 11: Inspire Youth, Celebrate Legacy, Impact Tomorrow — Events spotlighting youth and women’s leadership include the Game Changer Breakfast with Dr. Gloria Dodson of the NCNW Georgia State Section, the Women in NAACP Brunch with Dr. Toni Alvarado of the My Sister’s Keeper Foundation, and the Youth & College Luncheon with the Rev. Dr. Charles White, former NAACP national field director. The convention will close with the Freedom Fund Gala at 7 p.m., featuring Bishop William Barber II of the Poor People’s Campaign as keynote speaker and entertainment by the Musical Jays.
The convention will also feature a healthcare mobile clinic, an ACT-SO introduction and The HUB Vendor Experience, highlighting Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. These events are open to the public.
