According to the Columbus Police Department, officers responded to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital on April 20, 2025, after receiving a report of a child sexual assault. The case was turned over to the department’s Special Victims Unit for investigation.

Investigators identified Amos Christian, 39, as the suspect and obtained warrants charging him with rape, incest, aggravated child molestation, cruelty to children in the first degree, cruelty to children in the second degree, and reckless conduct, police said.

Authorities later learned Christian had relocated to Perry, Florida, where he was arrested on Sept. 25, 2025, by officers with the Perry Police Department.

Christian was extradited to Columbus on Oct. 7, 2025, and is currently being held in the Muscogee County Jail. He was scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9.

The Columbus Police Department thanked the Perry Police Department for its assistance in the arrest and coordination of Christian’s extradition.
