Emanuel Preparatory School of Math & Science is marking a milestone — 10 years of preparing young men to be exemplary leaders, rooted in academic excellence and Christian values.

Founded with just 11 students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, the school has grown into one of the community’s best-kept academic secrets. Today, Emanuel Prep serves boys from pre-K through eighth grade, offering a rigorous math and science-focused curriculum designed to cultivate 21st-century skills, critical thinking, and a love of learning.

“Our goal is to help our young men ‘stand’ as skillful and wise as the young men did in Daniel, Chapter 1,” said Pastor Carlos D. Coleman, Sr., pastor of New Birth Outreach Church and the school’s founder. “This is more than an educational institution — it’s a ministry.”

The school employs a project-based, interdisciplinary approach that allows students to make connections across disciplines. Small class sizes, averaging 10 students, enable individualized instruction and foster collaboration between teachers and scholars. Emanuel Prep also offers Spanish, robotics, coding, art, music, and physical education.

In the past year, the school has nearly doubled enrollment, growing from 44 to 88 students. Corey Black, Dean of Scholars, attributes this success to focused outreach and the school’s strong academic and moral environment.

“Our parents are fully invested,” Black said. “They’re making an intentional choice to put their sons in a place where they will be disciplined, motivated, and surrounded by positive male role models. We have eight male teachers — that’s rare. We also provide transportation, breakfast, and lunch as part of tuition. It’s a special place.”

Tuition is $750 a month, but scholarships and programs like the Georgia Promise Scholarship — which provides up to $6,500 toward private school tuition — make the education accessible for many families.

Athletics and extracurricular activities are also expanding. Emanuel Prep now has a basketball team and will launch its first cross-country and soccer teams this year.

Looking ahead, the school plans to celebrate its anniversary with an expanded open house, a benefit dinner, and an epic graduation ceremony for its first class of eighth graders. Pastor Coleman also intends to fulfill a long-standing promise: to take the school’s top scholar on a trip to Kenya.

“This is a place where young men are prepared to thrive academically, spiritually, and socially,” Black said. “If you want your son in a culture where he can succeed, Emanuel Prep is where he needs to be.”

Emanuel Preparatory School of Math & Science is located at 10107 Veterans Parkway in Midland.
