A record number of voters participated in early in-person voting in Muscogee County ahead of the upcoming election, according to county election officials.
There are 127,686 active registered voters in Muscogee County. As of Friday, the final day of early voting, 21,275 voters had cast ballots during the advance voting period.
According to voter data, 15,561 of those who voted early identified as Democrats, compared to 4,994 identified as Republicans.
A demographic breakdown of early voters showed 12,416 Black voters participated in early voting, followed by 6,646 White voters. An additional 1,201 voters were classified as other or unknown, while 275 Hispanic voters, 181 Asian/Pacific Islander voters, and 71 American Indian voters also cast ballots during the early voting period.
Early voting took place at three locations across Columbus, including the City Services Center, Shirley B. Winston Recreation Center, and Northside Recreation Center.
Nancy Boren, director of Elections and Registration for Muscogee County, said the turnout established a new record for in-person advance voting in the county.
Election officials are reminding residents who did not participate in early voting that they must vote at their assigned precinct on Election Day.
