For twin sisters Lakesha Story and Latesha Walker, eye care is more than a profession — it’s a calling. The Midland-based optometrists, both graduates of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, have more than 15 years of experience and a shared mission: providing quality eye care with compassion while making a lasting impact in the community.
Together they co-founded Double Vision Eye Care, a boutique-style optometry clinic offering comprehensive services with the latest technology. From diabetic and pediatric exams to glaucoma and cataract screenings, emergency eye care, and eyeglass and contact lens fittings, the clinic specializes in both routine and medical optometry.
“Our priority is making sure every patient has a rewarding experience,” Dr. Story said. “God told me one day, ‘I didn’t give you one vision, but two.’ That’s when I knew this practice was meant to be something we built together.”
Dr. Story, born and raised in Lanett, Alabama, earned her biology degree with a minor in chemistry at UAB before completing her Doctor of Optometry degree at UAB’s School of Optometry in 2012. She credits a professor’s encouragement — quoting motivational speaker Les Brown’s words,
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” — with inspiring her to pursue the field.
Dr. Walker followed the same academic path, earning her biology degree with a chemistry minor at UAB and later her Doctor of Optometry degree at UAB’s School of Optometry. A licensed therapeutic optometrist, she has extensive experience in family eye care, ocular disease management, and geriatric vision health.
At Double Vision Eye Care, the sisters combine medical expertise with a personal touch. Whether patients are restyling their glasses or undergoing a comprehensive eye health assessment, the doctors say they strive to perfect the gift of sight while serving the community with love.
“Eye care is about more than exams and prescriptions,” Dr. Walker said. “It’s about seeing people — truly seeing them — and helping them see the world more clearly.”
Double Vision Eye Care is located in Midland, serving patients across Columbus and surrounding areas.
