Courier Eco Latino to launch inaugural ‘Who’s Who of the Hispanic Community’

As the nation observes Hispanic Heritage Month, the Courier Eco Latino Newspaper will launch its inaugural “Who’s Who of the Hispanic Community” this Sunday, celebrating the men and women whose leadership, service and accomplishments are helping shape communities across Columbus, Fort Moore, Phenix City and the surrounding Chattahoochee Valley.

The special recognition is intended to highlight not only those whose names may already be familiar, but also the individuals working behind the scenes to strengthen families, build businesses, educate young people, serve their country and improve the quality of life throughout the Chattahoochee Valley.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The observance celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose heritage traces to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The Sept. 15 starting date is significant because it marks the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence Sept. 16, followed by Chile on Sept. 18.

For the Courier Eco Latino, the recognition carries special significance. Since its founding, the bilingual newspaper has worked to provide a platform for Black and Hispanic communities and to tell stories that have too often gone untold or underreported by traditional media.

The “Who’s Who of the Hispanic Community” initiative is about more than publishing names and photographs. It is an opportunity to introduce the broader community to the people behind the progress — people building businesses, caring for families, educating children, protecting the nation, providing health care, strengthening neighborhoods and opening doors for the next generation.

Their stories are part of the story of the Chattahoochee Valley.

Through this inaugural recognition, the Courier Eco Latino seeks to celebrate their accomplishments, amplify their voices and ensure that their contributions are seen, valued and remembered.
