Courier Eco Latino Newspaper and Davis Broadcasting, Inc. Invite Community to Explore Exhibit Honoring Rep. Calvin Smyre’s 50 Years of Service

The Courier Eco Latino Newspaper and Davis Broadcasting, Inc. are inviting the community to take part in a special lunchtime visit celebrating one of Georgia’s most influential political leaders through the new exhibition, “The Puzzle of Politics: Calvin Smyre in Service, 1975–2025.”

The exhibit, currently on display at the Columbus Museum, highlights the remarkable 50-year public service career of longtime state legislator Calvin Smyre, whose leadership helped shape public policy and economic development across Columbus and the state of Georgia.

Community members are encouraged to join their favorite Davis Broadcasting radio stations along with the Courier Eco Latino Newspaper on Friday, Feb. 27, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., for a special lunchtime gathering and exploration of the exhibit. Organizers say the event offers residents an opportunity to step away during their lunch break for what promises to be both a history lesson and a celebration of local leadership.

Through photographs, archival materials, and historical storytelling, the exhibition traces Smyre’s journey from his election to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1974 to becoming one of the longest-serving legislators in Georgia history.

“This exhibit allows the community to reflect on five decades of service, leadership, and political progress that helped shape our city and state,” organizers said.

The exhibition will remain open to the public through Sunday, March 1, marking the final opportunity for residents, students, and civic leaders to experience the tribute.

Organizers encourage the public to stop by the museum this Friday during their lunch hour and be part of a moment that connects Columbus’ past leadership with its future civic engagement.
