Courier Eco Latino Celebrates its Inaugural ‘Who’s Who of the Hispanic Community’

Special recognition honors Hispanic and Latino leaders whose contributions are shaping Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley

As the Hispanic population continues to grow and contribute to the cultural, economic and civic landscape of Columbus and the surrounding Chattahoochee Valley, the Courier Eco Latino Newspaper is recognizing the individuals whose leadership, achievements and commitment to service are making a lasting difference.

The inaugural “Who's Who of the Hispanic Community” is more than a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. It is an acknowledgment that the region's strength is rooted in the talents, traditions, experiences and contributions of people from many different backgrounds.

Through this special recognition, the Courier Eco Latino Newspaper proudly honors the men and women who continue to demonstrate that leadership, service and excellence know no cultural boundaries.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, observed annually from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, the newspaper proudly presents its inaugural “Who’s Who of the Hispanic Community,” a special recognition honoring Hispanic and Latino men and women whose accomplishments are helping shape communities across Columbus, Fort Benning, Phenix City and the surrounding region.

The recognition comes at a time when the Hispanic community represents an increasingly significant part of Muscogee County's population.

According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts data, Hispanic and Latino residents account for approximately 9.3% of Muscogee County's estimated 2025 population of 202,171 — roughly 18,800 residents. That represents an increase from the 8% Hispanic population share recorded in the 2020 census, reflecting the community's growing presence even as the county's overall population has declined since 2020.

The demographic shift reflects a community whose influence extends well beyond population figures. Hispanic and Latino residents are contributing to the region's growth through entrepreneurship, education, military service, health care, faith-based organizations, government, nonprofit leadership and civic engagement.

Their contributions are helping strengthen local institutions, create economic opportunities, bridge cultural divides and enrich the diversity that defines the Chattahoochee Valley.

Through its inaugural recognition, the Courier Eco Latino seeks to shine a spotlight on individuals whose stories of perseverance, leadership and achievement often go untold.

These honorees represent a broad cross-section of the Hispanic community — educators who inspire future generations, business leaders who create opportunities, military veterans who continue serving beyond their years in uniform, faith leaders who strengthen families and community advocates who work to ensure that every voice is heard.

Their individual journeys reflect the richness and diversity of Hispanic heritage, while their collective accomplishments demonstrate the important role Hispanic and Latino residents play in the region's present and future.

As a publication committed to serving the African American and Hispanic communities, the Courier Eco Latino recognizes that representation matters. Celebrating these achievements is not simply about acknowledging individual success; it is about ensuring that the contributions of an increasingly diverse population become part of the broader story of Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley.

The newspaper's mission of being “Inspirational, Informative and Empowering” remains central to this initiative.

Editor's note: The population estimate is calculated using the Census Bureau's 2025 county population estimate and its reported Hispanic or Latino percentage. Hispanic or Latino refers to ethnicity and includes people of any race.
