Columbus, GA—Columbus State University alumni and friends contributed more than $5.9 million during the 2023-24 fundraising year, reflecting steady donor support over the past three years.
The university celebrated its supporters on Sept. 19 at a "Celebration of Support" dinner held at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center, highlighting the impact of private donations on student experiences and scholarship opportunities.
CSU President Stuart Rayfield expressed gratitude to donors.
"We have an amazing group of people on this campus… working every day to support this university," Rayfield said.
She emphasized the critical role of community support in addressing local and statewide workforce needs, calling it a pivotal moment for higher education in Georgia.
Dr. Rocky Kettering, vice president for university advancement, noted that approximately $4 million of the funds raised last year were directed toward various colleges, including the Honors College, while athletic donations reached a three-year high of over $1.1 million. Notably, more than $1.7 million went directly to student scholarships.
"The support from our community has not wavered," Kettering said, highlighting the university’s growing endowment, which is nearing $100 million—ranking it seventh among the University System of Georgia's 26 public colleges and universities.
A significant addition to CSU's scholarship offerings came from Dr. Ellen Roberts, a retired professor who established two endowed scholarships honoring her parents.
The George and Norma Roberts First-Generation Undergraduate Scholarships will provide $2,000 annually to two students, with a preference for those pursuing teaching degrees.
Nearly 2,300 donors, including alumni, corporations, and private organizations, contributed to the university's fundraising efforts, enhancing the quality of education and student life at CSU.
Foundation Board Chair Tim Money emphasized the long-term impact of these donations.
"An investment in this university is an investment in your businesses, your homes, the future of your children and their children," Money said.
In April 2024, CSU set a new record during its annual Day of Giving, raising $208,607 in 24 hours, significantly surpassing the previous record of $63,000 in 2022.
