Columbus Police Arrest Suspect in Brookstone Boulevard Homicide

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 65-year-old man found inside a Brookstone Boulevard home earlier this week, authorities said.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers responded to a possible burglary around 8:16 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at a residence in the 6200 block of Brookstone Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found Norman Lane, 65, dead inside the home with gunshot wounds. Investigators said there were signs of forced entry.

Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon pronounced Lane dead at 9:09 p.m., police said. The department’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, police arrested Antanavious Butler, 26, in connection with Lane’s death. Butler was taken into custody without incident by members of the Violent Crimes Unit and Special Operations Division, according to police.

Butler was booked into the Muscogee County Jail and charged with murder, home invasion, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.
