The Columbus NAACP chapter is gearing up to host their 49th annual Freedom Fund banquet. This is one of the branch’s largest fundraisers of the year. The Freedom Fund banquet allows community members to meet and hear from the NAACP leaders and learn what they have in store for the community. The event will feature a speaker, this year’s being Congressman James Clyburn of South Carolina.
All of the donated funds collected at the Freedom Fund banquet will be used to further the efforts of the Columbus NAACP chapter in the community, “This allows our volunteers and leaders to help people who have been discriminated against and those who are trying to get ahead in life” said National Board member, Ed Dubose.
The Freedom Fund banquet will allow residents to look inside the organization and hear about its accomplishments. The community will also hear from Congressman James Clyburn, who is most known for the changes he has made in the lives of African Americans, including $3 million in African American Civil Rights grants and a $28 million federal funding bill for South Carolina community projects.
The Freedom Fund banquet will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center at 801 Front Ave. Columbus, GA 31901.
