A Tuesday VIEW FROM A PEW: “God Don’t Need Your Guilt — He Wants Your Heart.”
This conversation is for somebody who’s been wrestling with what it means to be blessed and still be biblical.
For residents looking to make a difference in their community, one of the most direct ways is by volunteering to serve on one of the city’s 43 boards, commissions or authorities.
City officials say serving on a board or committee is an opportunity for citizens to contribute to local decision-making and help shape policies that affect everyday life in Columbus. The boards cover a wide range of areas, from public safety and recreation to housing, health and economic development.

“It’s a rewarding experience,” one longtime board member said. “You get to work alongside people with a common goal—making our city the best place to live, work and raise a family.”The Columbus Consolidated Government website serves as the central hub for information about these opportunities. Residents interested in serving can review eligibility requirements, find open positions, and learn about the application process.
Among the boards and commissions are the Board of Elections and Registration, Crime Prevention Board, Airport Commission, Housing Authority, Planning Advisory Commission, and Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission.
Other groups include the Tree Board, River Valley Regional Commission, Liberty Theatre & Cultural Arts Center Advisory Board, Downtown Development Authority, and Board of Water Commissioners, among others.
Officials encourage residents to review the full list of boards and consider lending their skills and perspectives. Interested citizens can apply online or contact the city department overseeing the specific board or commission.
Volunteers play a key role in ensuring Columbus continues to grow and thrive, city leaders said.
