Black History Month Committee Awards Grants to 12 Youth Organizations

The 2026 Black History Month Observance Breakfast Committee distributed donations to 12 local organizations Wednesday during a ceremony at the Columbus Public Library, continuing its longstanding commitment to supporting youth development and mentorship programs throughout the community.

The presentation was held in the Synovus Room of the library and was led by the committee, with U.S. Rep. Sanford D. Bishop Jr. serving as honorary chair.

The annual distribution recognized organizations that provide educational opportunities, leadership training, mentoring and community services for young people in the Columbus area.

Organizations receiving donations included Alpha Aces, the Boys & Girls Club, Columbus Dream Center, Columbus Scholars, Delta Gems Academy (Alumni), Delta Gems Academy (Metro), Emanuel Preparatory School of Math and Science, Kappa League, Let's Grow STEAM, Omega Lamplighters, Piedmont Leaders and the William Henry Spencer House.

Committee organizers said the annual donations reflected the organization's ongoing mission to invest in programs that strengthen the community by empowering its youth.

"We're proud to support these organizations and their continued investment in our youth," Congressman Bishop said. "These donations represent our commitment to helping local programs provide opportunities that inspire leadership, education and personal growth."

The Black History Month Observance Breakfast Committee has made youth development a central focus of its annual fundraising efforts, providing financial support to organizations that serve children and young adults throughout the Columbus area.

Oz Roberts and Herman E. Lewis Jr. served as co-chairs of the committee, while Bishop served as the honorary chair of the 2026 Black History Month Observance Breakfast.
