Attorney Altovise Dehaviah Filmore Opens Filmore Law in Columbus

Attorney Altovise Dehaviah Filmore has opened a new private practice at 1332 Wynnton Road in Columbus.

Filmore brings more than two decades of legal experience to her new firm, where she will focus on criminal law, including misdemeanor and traffic cases, as well as probate law and estate planning.

A Columbus native, Filmore graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. She earned her undergraduate degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, and later received her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. She has lived in Columbus for the past 25 years.

Filmore has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2002. Before opening her firm, she served as a prosecutor in the Muscogee County Solicitor-General’s Office, where she handled misdemeanor and traffic cases in State Court. Her experience as a prosecutor, she said, provided firsthand insight into courtroom procedure, case strategy and the complexities of Georgia law.

In addition to her legal practice, Filmore has served as an adjunct instructor for the past 20 years, teaching at three colleges and universities. Her courses have included criminal law, wills and estates, property law, civil litigation, family law, ethics, torts, legal research and writing, and law office management.

Filmore said her combined experience in the courtroom and classroom has strengthened her ability to serve clients effectively.
