Al Faruk Temple #145 Nobles Bring Comfort Through Service at House of West Georgia
Community outreach provides home-cooked meal, fellowship and encouragement to families facing medical challenges
COLUMBUS, Ga. — Demonstrating that community service extends beyond words, the Nobles of Al Faruk Temple #145 recently prepared and served a home-cooked cookout meal for families staying at the House of West Georgia, offering compassion, fellowship and support to those caring for loved ones receiving medical treatment.
The outreach project was conducted in fulfillment of the Illustrious Potentate's Community Service Directive, reinforcing the Shrine's ongoing commitment to serving the Columbus community through meaningful acts of kindness.
For many families staying at the House of West Georgia, the evening represented more than a shared meal. It provided a moment of comfort, encouragement and normalcy during an emotionally difficult time.
Located at 1959 Hamilton Road, the House of West Georgia serves as a "home away from home" for families whose loved ones are receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities, including infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital. The 14-bedroom facility helps ease both the emotional and financial burden of extended hospital stays by providing comfortable accommodations, fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms and family gathering spaces.
Nobles prepared and served a traditional cookout-style dinner while spending time visiting with residents and staff, reflecting the organization's mission of service and brotherhood.
"Giving back to families during one of the hardest moments of their lives is exactly what our Shrine is called to do," said Noble Dwight Gadson, Illustrious Potentate of Al Faruk Temple #145. "We are proud of our Nobles for stepping up to serve the families at the House of West Georgia, and we hope this small gesture brought them comfort during their stay."
Temple leaders said the event represents one of many community service initiatives planned throughout the year as Al Faruk Temple #145 continues its mission of supporting families and strengthening communities across the Chattahoochee Valley.
The organization also expressed its appreciation to the House of West Georgia for allowing its members the opportunity to serve families during a time when compassion and encouragement are needed most.
As Nobles greeted families, served meals and shared conversations, the evening reflected the Shrine's longstanding commitment to charity, brotherhood and community service—demonstrating that even a simple meal can provide hope and remind families they are not facing life's challenges alone.
