A View From A Pew: The ABCs of a Better You

Every now and then, life doesn’t require a complicated message… it requires a clear one. Not something deep that you have to decode—but something simple that you can live. Because the truth is, many of us don’t fail because we don’t know enough, we struggle because we don’t apply what we already know.

So from this pew, let me slow it down and stretch it out. These ABCs are not just letters… they are life principles. And if you lean into them, they won’t just give you a better year… they’ll give you a better you.

A — Avoid
Avoid anything that contaminates your spirit. Some environments don’t grow you—they drain you. Some conversations don’t elevate you—they exhaust you. And some habits don’t comfort you—they cripple you. You can’t become better if you keep entertaining what’s beneath you.

B — Believe
Believe in yourself—not because everything is going right, but because God doesn’t make mistakes. You are not an accident. You are an assignment. And belief is the fuel that keeps you moving when results are nowhere in sight.

C — Consider
Consider things from every angle. Sometimes what looks like a setback is really a setup. Sometimes what feels like rejection is actually protection. Don’t rush your response—God might be working behind the scenes.

D — Don’t give up
Don’t give in. Don’t tap out. Don’t let one bad day convince you that you have a bad life. Strength isn’t the absence of struggle—it’s the refusal to surrender.

E — Enjoy
Enjoy life right now. Not when everything is perfect. Not when you finally “arrive.” Learn to find joy in the middle of the journey. Because yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is not guaranteed—but today? Today is yours.

F — Family and friends
These are your real riches. Not followers. Not likes. Not applause. The people who check on you, pray for you, stand with you—that’s wealth. Don’t neglect what matters chasing what doesn’t.

G — Give
Give more than you planned. Give your time. Give your love. Give your grace. Because giving isn’t just about helping others—it’s about freeing yourself from the grip of selfishness.

H — Hang on
Hang on to your dream, even when reality doesn’t match it. Dreams don’t die because of difficulty—they die because of doubt. Protect what God placed in you.

I — Ignore the BS
Everything doesn’t deserve your attention. Some battles are distractions in disguise. If it doesn’t align with your purpose, don’t give it your energy.

J — Just do it
Stop waiting for the perfect moment. The perfect moment is a myth. Start where you are, with what you have, and trust God to meet you in motion.

K — Keep trying
It’s going to be hard—but hard doesn’t mean stop. Hard means stretch. Hard means grow. Hard means you’re closer than you think.

L — Love
Love yourself enough to set boundaries. Love others enough to show grace. And love God enough to trust His timing—even when it doesn’t match yours.

M — Make it happen
You’ve prayed about it—now move on it. Faith is not passive. Faith moves. Faith builds. Faith acts.

N — Never let them see you sweat
Not because life isn’t heavy—but because your faith is heavier. You don’t panic—you pray. You don’t fold—you focus.

O — Open your eyes
There are blessings all around you. Opportunities. Lessons. Favor. But you can’t see it if you’re too busy focusing on what you don’t have.

P — Practice
Practice discipline. Practice patience. Practice consistency. Because greatness is not a moment—it’s a habit.

Q — Quitters never win
And winners aren’t always the most talented—they’re just the most persistent. They show up when it’s hard. They keep going when it hurts.

R — Read, learn, study
Grow your mind. Expand your understanding. Ignorance will cost you opportunities that knowledge could have opened.

S — Stop procrastinating
Stop putting off what God told you to do. Delay is dangerous. Every day you wait is a day you could have been walking in purpose.

T — Take control
This is your life. Not theirs. Not the critics. Not the doubters. You have the pen—write your story.

U — Understand yourself
Know your strengths. Know your weaknesses. Know your triggers. Self-awareness is the foundation of growth.

V — Visualize it
See it before you see it. Speak it before you touch it. Because what you consistently picture, you begin to pursue.

W — Want it
Want it bad enough to work for it. Want it bad enough to sacrifice for it. Desire without discipline is just a wish.

X — You’ve marked your spot
You are not here by accident. There is space in this world with your name on it. Stop shrinking to fit where you don’t belong.

Y — You are unique
There is nobody like you—and that is your power. Don’t compare. Don’t compete. Just become.

Z — Zero in
Focus. Lock in. Eliminate distractions. And go after what God has already prepared for you.

And as I close from this pew, let me remind you: This isn’t just an alphabet…This is alignment. Alignment with discipline. Alignment with purpose. Alignment with the person God created you to be.

So this year… don’t just make resolutions—make decisions. Don’t just talk about change—become it. And when it gets hard—and it will— Go back to your ABCs. Because everything you need… From A to Z… God already placed inside of you.
