A View from A Pew: Be Grateful for What You Have

Sometimes we get so caught up chasing what we want that we forget to thank God for what we already have.

We're living in a world where people measure blessings by bank accounts, cars, clothes, and clout. But let me tell you something — perspective is powerful. There’s always someone wishing they had what you take for granted.

You mad 'cause you driving a Honda, and somebody else just got a Ferrari?
There’s a man on a bicycle wishing he had your Honda.
And there’s a brother standing at the bus stop, soaked in the rain, praying for that bike.
Meanwhile, a homeless man sitting on a bench is just wishing for a warm cup of coffee.
But go deeper — there’s someone lying in a hospital bed right now, can’t walk, can’t move, can’t feel — wishing he had the strength just to sit on that same bench.

And then there’s someone who didn’t wake up this morning. Somebody whose time ran out. Somebody whose choices led them into eternal fire, wishing they had just one more chance to get it right. One more breath. One more prayer. One more opportunity to say, “Lord, I’m sorry. Use me.”

Gratitude isn’t about what you’re missing — it’s about what you still have.

Don’t let desperation change your destination.
Don’t let frustration block your revelation.
Don’t let temptation detour you from your transformation.

Yes, it’s hard. Yes, life will test you. But God isn’t denying you — He’s delaying you. And that delay is preparation, not punishment. You’re praying for a breakthrough, and God’s tuning your character to handle the blessing when it comes. Because He knows what you don’t: a blessing too early can become a burden too heavy.

So, work. Wait. Worship. And above all else — be grateful.

Some of y’all are standing in the middle of answered prayers and don’t even realize it.

That house you complain about? Somebody’s sleeping under a bridge.
That job you hate? Somebody’s been unemployed for months praying for your position.
Those kids driving you crazy? Someone's begging God just for the chance to become a parent.

Gratitude changes your attitude — and your altitude.

Stop looking at what’s missing. Start thanking God for what’s present. Because the moment you begin to praise, even in the midst of pain, is the moment you shift the atmosphere around you.

You may not have everything you want, but if you have breath in your body, purpose in your soul, and the ability to say, “Thank you, Lord,” then trust me — you’ve got more than enough to start with.
