In the aftermath of Columbus’ recent election, one thing became abundantly clear: the people are demanding change. Not simply a change in leadership, but a change in tone, a change in conduct, and a change in how public servants engage both one another and the citizens they were elected to represent.
Following the conclusion of the election, Dr. Rocky Marsh has publicly pledged his support for District 9 City Council candidate Cathy Cook and mayoral candidate Isaiah Hugley, encouraging those who stood with his campaign to return to the polls on June 16.
“The results of this election is clearly a mandate for change,” Marsh stated. “A change on how we treat each other as councilors, how we treat the citizens of Columbus when they come in front of their representatives, and how we as a legislative body is perceived by this community and the state.”
Those words carried weight because they reflected the tone Dr. Marsh demonstrated throughout his campaign.
While the final vote tally may not have ended in his favor, there is something to be said about a man who chooses to run his race with integrity, wisdom, humility and strength. In an era where politics too often rewards division, disrespect and personal attacks, Dr. Marsh remained grounded in purpose and focused on service.
Through every long day, every sacrifice, every handshake, every conversation and every opportunity to connect with the people of Columbus, he continued to show up with consistency and dignity. Campaigns have a way of revealing character, and this season revealed a man deeply committed to his community and sincere in his desire to serve.
Equally refreshing was witnessing the unwavering support of his wife, Dee Marsh, who stood faithfully beside him throughout the journey. In many ways, her presence reminded the community that behind every strong leader is often a strong foundation of love, encouragement and partnership.

Although this publication did not endorse Dr. Marsh in this particular endeavor, respect must always be given where respect is earned. And without question, Dr. Marsh earned the respect of this publication for the manner in which he conducted his campaign.
Too often we celebrate only those who win elections while overlooking the courage it takes to simply stand, to serve, and to place your name before the public in hopes of making a difference. Leadership is not always defined by victory at the ballot box. Sometimes leadership is defined by grace under pressure, composure during adversity and the willingness to continue serving even after disappointment.
So today, we salute Dr. Rocky Marsh.
May God’s continued favor, wisdom, strength and divine direction rest upon your life. May every lesson from this season produce even greater impact in the next. May every door connected to your purpose open in due season. And may your steps continue to be ordered toward meaningful service and lasting influence.
This race may be over, but the work, the calling and the impact continue.
Congratulations on a race well run.
